Before I talk about my 2020 plans and moves, let me start this conversation with a little “Ekaila’s Question of the Day.” Now, my friends and family know I am definitely the one who will randomly ask a question if I really want to know an answer. So, here’s my not so random question, “What’s one move you really want to make this year? Maybe your move for your 2020 bucket list is traveling somewhere new, or more time for self-care, or even learning a new skill.
Whatever your move is, now think about this, why haven’t you done it yet?
Nope. I won’t even allow you to come up with an excuse. Let’s be real with ourselves and do better this year. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let’s talk moves.
Less Talk, More Action
As we are at the end of the first month of the new year/ decade, I can say I have had such a “go and get it” mindset about everything. I have been challenging myself to try new things and stopping myself from self-sabotaging and playing small. Maybe it has something to do with this new decade, but all I know is there is so much I want to do this year, and I am not letting another year past with some things not being checked off of my “bucket” list.
Making Moves All 2020
Now, I am not really a big fan of the name “bucket list.” I feel like so many people think a bucket list has to just include only extreme activities like bungee jumping and skydiving since it’s happening before you “kick the bucket.” It’s that YOLO (You Only Live Once) mentality, and though that’s cool, I think there should be more to your list than just those kinds of activities.
I instead refer to my bucket list as “My Moves” list because I like the motivation to really move and make things happen. Also, because my moves list includes simple things I want to do, such as more self-care things that are often overlooked and not much appreciated. But for the sake of this post and people knowing the term “Bucket List”, I’ll stick to using that name.
So let me share my bucket list, gems that can help you make your list, and then even the opportunity to get this cute printable bucket list sent to your email.
Kaila with an E’s Bucket List
While I was making my bucket list, I thought the best way to make sure I am hitting essential things on my list was to categorize my list based on what’s important to me. The categories are from my finding my focus blog post, where I highlight people and things that I value.
The categories that my bucket list is broken down into are Family/Friends, Fun, Faith, and Focus. Each of the groups includes different activities that will help me to continue to grow and connect with God, the people I love, and myself. Check this out.
For Family/ Friends, here’s some activities I listed that I would loved to do with my people. Some of these things I have done before and would love to do again for more good times and memories!
Here’s a little look at the rest of my bucket list!
So, now that you have seen my bucket list, let’s talk about how you can make yours.
Here are some small gems that I have for making your 2020 moves list:
- Remember, your list is YOURS.
Fill your list with things you really want to do, even day-to-day things like reading more books, starting a business, or learning a new skill. Don’t just put down crazy things that you saw someone do on YouTube or Instagram. Like I am sorry sis, but I don’t care how many times I see people go skydiving or even rock climbing, that’s not going on my list. That’s not my vibe at all. But, if that’s your vibe, awesome, go for it!
Make sure your list is written down somewhere where you can constantly see it. You are more likely to really get these things done when you write it down.
- Push your boundaries just a little bit.
You’d be surprised to learn more about yourself once you step outside of your comfort zone. How many things do you really want to do, but you have talked yourself out of it countless times because “I can’t do that” or “I don’t think anyone would really vibe with that.” Look, who cares what anyone else thinks. You want to start the cool clothing line? Do it. You want to make a YouTube channel? Do it. You want to meet new people? Do it. Don’t let what others think or say interfere with your growth. Plus, those who really rock with you will support you. TRUST.
- Be sure to make time for YOU.
Though filling your list with all these dope adventures is definitely a move, be sure to schedule time on your list to just have a chill day. Like a sleep in, stay in your pajamas, and Netflix it up kinda day. Speaking from my introverted experiences, being around friends and family is a vibe, but that one-on-one time hits different. It is okay to have some time specifically for you where you don’t answer your phone or engage in socializing at all. Do whatever is necessary to take care of yourself.
Self-care is a necessity, not a luxury. You can’t pour from an empty class, so be sure to take care of yourself first.
- Make sure you live in the moment!
With any and everything you put on your list, make sure you are truly living and enjoying the moments. If you’re like me, it can be easy to be so focused on crossing something off your moves list that you forget to actually enjoy each step of completing that move. Any new experiences, be sure to journal about it and even take pictures like I did from my trip last year to St. Louis.
